Chapter 11
Piper
Every inch of me wanted to scream, to run for the hills, and leave all the vampire politics behind me. I knew I couldnât though. I had to do this for Wynn. It was my fault he was taken and it would be me who got him back.
So, if that meant that this greasy, old vampire got to take a bite out of me, then goddamn it he would get his taste. I just hoped I could keep my sanity when it was all over.
Morpheus ran his hands over my arms and up my shoulders, caressing me like we were lovers. An involuntary shiver surged through me at his touch. I was going to need an acid bath when this was all over or Iâd never feel clean again.
His hands lifted until they came to the tie on my halter top. I hitched a breath and one of the guys stepped toward me. Morpheus simply smiled down at me. âWe wouldnât want to get blood all over that pretty top of yours.â
I waved whoever had stepped forward off, allowing Morpheus to untie my shirt. I held the front up against my breasts. He might be getting to drink my blood, but that didnât give him the right to the rest of my body.
Morpheus spun me around, making me face the others. âItâs so much better with an audience, donât you think?â His sharp nail stroked the side of my neck, not cutting, but the threat of violence was there.
My eyes drifted over to Rayneâs of their own accord. The muscles in his jaw were tight, his body poised to launch forward at any moment. Please donât. I shoved the thought at him, hoping to calm him some. I might not be able to make myself chill out, but I couldnât have the others getting hurt for this. It was my decision. It had to be me.
Morpheus combed my hair away from my neck, his nose inhaling my scent. âMagnificent. I can see why theyâre so taken with you.â
âMorpheus.â Antoineâs warning tone held more violence in it than Iâd ever heard. âStop torturing her. Get your taste before my brothers can no longer wait.â
Huffing, Morpheus practically sounded like a chastised child, whining, âYou take all the fun out of it. Iâm regretting giving you the information.â
âBe that as it may, you did. Now finish this.â Antoine warned once more, his gaze locked on to the vampire behind me.
Morpheus didnât even give me any warning before he struck. His fangs sank so deeply into my neck, I swore he was scratching bone. Tears filled my eyes and I held back a scream by biting my lip. I wouldnât give him the satisfaction.
While Morpheusâs bite hurt like a son of a bitch, it wasnât the same as Valentineâs. His had been brutal like a vicious animal. Add in the fact that he was trying to kill me and I couldnât call out to any of the guys, it was a human's worst nightmare.
